Home safety is probably one of the most talked topics on people’s mind today. Can you imagine watching television with your family and suddenly a robber busts through your front or back door? It’s sad but our homes are not 100% safe. There are however some tips you can learn to help protect yourself.

First make sure you have durable doors. They should be heavy, thick doors that are difficult to damage and break down, equipped with durable locks. Be sure to visit your local hardware store or locate a reputable locksmith to install heavy duty locks. One of the easiest but neglected or overlooked practice; lock your door! The amount of homes that are simply walked into unlocked is staggering. Many would be robbers look for the easy targets and unlocked doors are what many burglars dream of.

Be sure to keep your windows locked, especially when you’re at the opposite end of the house. Some burglars will climb through unlocked windows. They’ll steal jewelry and other items in the bedrooms while you’re at the opposite end of the house or outside. You can install inexpensive but highly effective window alarms. Door alarms ideal for patio French or sliding glass doors. These devices will set of an audible alarm over 120 db scaring off the burglar.

Many homeowners will hide keys under door mats, in flower pots, on a window ledge, even in the dirt next to the stoop. These common places are where burglars tend to look, especially if they are not in plain view from the street or neighboring houses.

You can invest in diversion safes, such as a fake sprinkler head where a key can be hidden. However, if you don’t have a sprinkler system then a fake sprinkler head may be a dead giveaway. Fake flower pots are ideal for hiding keys. Another secure method is to install a digital lock where entry is done by entering an access code to either unlock the door.

You may want to consider installing surveillance cameras around your property. Some homeowners place a monitor beside their television so they can see around the perimeter of their home while watching television. Let people who pass your houses know you are aware of their presence. Burglars tend to be leery of houses with surveillance cameras. An additional tip…install signs that indicate the house is under camera surveillance.

If you park your car outside your garage that’s equipped with an automatic garage door opener make sure your car is always locked. An unlocked car is an opportunity for burglars to easily open your car and gain access to your house with your remote opener. Don’t become easy prey for a burglar.

Wireless home monitors are ideal to detect motion in your home while you’re away. These alarms can be programmed with up to 5 telephone numbers that you wish to program. When the alarm senses motion it automatically calls your cell phone, office or other numbers you desire to have notified. With these clever alarms you remove the risk of entering your home to an unwanted guest. If you come home late at night these devices are a must for you.

If you are going away on vacation be sure to stop your mail and newspaper deliveries or have a neighbor whom you know and trust collect these deliveries. Install timers so that lights in your home turn on toward dusk and turn off in the morning. Bathroom lights are good to leave on, if on the outside wall of the home. Try to have your exterior lights turn off during the day. Burning outside porch or flood lights can give a hint that no one is home.

Hopefully these tips can give added security to your home and family.

Good luck and be safe!

Unlocked cars present an opportunity for burglars. This is a prime opportunity to gain access to your house if you have an automated door with a remote opener in your car. Don’t become easy prey for a burglar.

Today, there’s no such thing as a safe place. That is why the best thing that you can possibly do is to increase the security features of your home. Two of the most ideal ones are the CCTV cameras and the automatic garage door.

Defining CCTV and Automated Garage Doors

CCTVs are basically cameras that you can install in different parts of your home, even right in your garage. You can program it to record for hours every day, as well as save the videos so you can check on them anytime you want to. One of the greatest advantages of CCTVs is that they provide you of real information: how things happened, who went into your home, and even what happened after.

If someone breaks into your home, for example, you just need to check on your CCTV and see if you have captured the burglar’s face. In Great Britain, these types of surveillance cameras are very popular, and in fact, it has somehow lessened the criminal rate in the country.

Automated garage doors, meanwhile, give you more control. Majority of the burglars either hide or pass by the garage door, before they can enter into your home. You can set up security codes, which only you or your family members know about. You can also set it up that it wouldn’t happen unless you turn it on.

Maintaining CCTV and Garage Doors

Because they are usually used for security, you must make sure that they are always running properly. You should learn the ways on how to maintain them. Here are some tips below:

1. Test the equipment regularly: When you have a CCTV camera installed in your home, make it a habit to check it at least one hour every day. See if it can still capture the right angles, or if the images still appear very clear. When it comes to your garage door openers, ensure that you can close and open them at your own pace.

2. Clean them at all times: This is especially true with your surveillance cameras. A lot of people believe that the blurred images are caused by some internal technical problems. Perhaps all you need to do is to grab a tissue and clean the lens. The closed-circuit system also has to be cleaned at all times to ensure that there will be no dust that will accumulate into the equipment. They can sometimes cause technical glitches.

3. Obtain professional services: A garage door repair is usually something that you can do on your own. There are plenty of DIY tips that you can find in the World Wide Web. However, if the problem seems to be far more complicated, you may want to hire a professional garage door opener repair services. They have the knowledge, expertise, and experience, which will ensure you of high-quality work.

With surveillance cameras and a fully functional garage door, you will be able to sleep soundly at night, and you can lessen down your worries for you and your family’s safety.

door
Adrian Jones

Exterior doors are often the first thing to be changed in a home improvement or remodelling project. That’s because exterior home doors say a lot about your home and you want to make sure that the property looks attractive. PVC exterior home doors have a lot of advantages over wooden doors. UPVC or vinyl outside doors are highly resistant to weathering, so you won’t end up with peeling paint as you do with some wooden doors. A PVC door will last for years, while a wooden door will need to be repainted often or replaced because of rotting timber.

Many people will be concerned about the appearance of their exterior home doors, but there’s no need for concern. UPVC external doors are available in a variety of styles. If you don’t like the appearance of the standard white vinyl door, consider a UPVC door with a light or dark wood effect for your remodelling project. It will have the attractiveness of a wooden outside door, but will be far more durable.

To add to the attractiveness of exterior doors, your home improvement project can include glass panels to allow light to stream into the house. This is particularly useful for providing natural light to dark areas of your home. The effect can be achieved by adding stained glass panels or other decorative panels to a PVC door. Some panels are almost clear, while others are heavily frosted. You will need to think about balancing the need for light with the need for privacy to decide which option is best for your PVC doors.

As well as being suitable for exterior doors, vinyl can be used for other doors around the home to create a uniform design for your home improvement project. You can use UPVC for all exterior home doors, including sliding patio doors, French doors, conservatory doors and doors that open onto porches. PVCU patio doors and other PVCU doors are also very secure, which is an additional benefit for the homeowner. The click and turn locking mechanism makes sure that the doors are weathertight and make it difficult for burglars to break in.

Home improvement articles suggest that when you install exterior doors, you should also give some thought to replacement windows. Windows replacement can be handled by the same companies that provide exterior home doors. Double glazed windows (also known as double glass windows) will reduce heat loss from your home and will make your central heating run more efficiently, saving you money and being kind to the environment.

Like exterior doors, UPVC windows are available in a range of corresponding finishes and you can also have leaded panes and other window effects for added style. Both sash windows and casement windows are available, and you may also select tinted windows in areas where you wish to reduce the effects of sunlight.

When reinstalling windows and PVC doors, give some thought to adding a PVC conservatory to your house. This can add value to your home and will complement vinyl replacement windows and exterior home doors.

door
Ralph Winn

Introducing a door alarm into your home is an uncomplicated and inexpensive way to achieve top notch home and business security, maintain impeccable customer service, or protect your children from injury. Before purchasing and installing a door alarm, you need to be acquainted with the benefits of these devices. (1) Where a door alarm ought to be placed (2) How a door alarm works (3) The best use for a door alarm.

With this information in hand, you will have the ability to choose the type of door alarm that will best fit your needs.

The Placement of a Door Alarm

The key achieving top security is to place a door alarm on every exterior door. Burglars often use back doors, garage doors, and basement doors to gain entry into homes or businesses. Knowing when someone is entering or exiting is most thorough if each door is fitted with a door alarm.

How a Door Alarm Works.

In layman’s terms, magnetic strips are placed on the door and on the door frame, and when the contact is broken the door alarm sounds. The sound emitted is dependant upon the type of door alarm you choose. The sound options are numerous: short, fairly quiet beeps or chimes, loud, piercing sirens and some even sound like a barking German Shepard.

A loud alarm is used for security reasons, while a softer-sounding door alarm is for notifying you when someone enters or exits.

The Many Uses for a Door Alarm

A door alarm is most frequently used as a security device. There is no better way to secure your home than to be notified each and every time someone opens or closes a door, but there are several other reasons to utilize a door alarm in your home or business. Often a business will place a door alarm on the front door to notify employees when customers enter, thereby allowing employees to stay productive by not having to keep a constant eye on the door. Emergency exits are often equipped with a door alarm so that if or when they are opened, the entire building will be aware of a possible emergency situation. To keep small children from gaining access to a swimming pool, a door alarm can be placed on the gate surrounding the swimming pool area. This type of placement, with the door alarm access button or key pad out of reach, ensures small children will not be at risk of drowning.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, “57 percent of burglaries in the United States, in 2003, took place without forced entry.” Installing a door alarm is an inexpensive way to ensure your home won’t be part of this statistic.
